Justin Harvey was appointed Head of the Cancer Data and Monitoring Unit at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) in 2012. The Cancer, Data and Monitoring Unit compiles the Australian Mesothelioma Registry and the Australian Cancer Database, and analyses and reports a variety of statistics on cancer. Mr Harvey is a member of the Australian Mesothelioma Registry Expert Advisory Group, the Cancer Monitoring Advisory Group, the Australasian Association of Cancer Registries, the Australian Cancer Atlas Project Advisory Group, and the Youth Cancer Services Data Advisory Group.
Previous to his current role, Mr Harvey held positions in AIHW’s Cardiovascular, Diabetes and Kidney Unit and Tobacco, Alcohol and Other Drugs Unit. Prior to joining the AIHW, Mr Harvey worked for 10 years at the Australian Bureau of Statistics where he managed various sections responsible for population surveys such as the National Health Survey; National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Health Survey; Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing; Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers; and the Longitudinal Survey of Australian Children.
